Fandi Ahmad: an important Singaporean

Fandi Ahmad is a well-known soccer player in Singapore. At 16, in 1978, he was the youngest player ever to join the senior national team. He played a key role in the victory against Selangor in the 1980 Malaysia cup. Then, he went on to win the golden boot award in 1988. He brought several silver medals home for Singapore in the 1980's, and because of his contributions to Singapore soccer, he was honored with a Public Service Award in 1994. In 2001, he became the youngest ever Council Member for the Football Association of Singapore, as well as the first former international player to do so.

This is a very interesting story, as Ahmad was a true 'wonderboy'. He did many things at a very young age that few professionals ever even get close to doing. He had great success playing in both Europe and Asia, and is still considered by many to be the greatest soccer player in Singapore history.
